Sarasota Music Club was one of the first organizations in Sarasota to bring outside professional music groups to the area. Established in 1930, the club continues to sponsor performances by professional musicians and scholarships for music students.
Programs from the 1950s and 1960s reveal that among the club’s active members were people of substantial musical talent, including David Cohen. The small rehearsal/performance hall in what is now the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center was home to many of the club’s activities, and other area venues have been used throughout the years.
Celebrating its 85th anniversary in 2015, Sarasota Music Club donated $8500 to local music organizations, in addition to awarding music scholarships to area high school students.
Since 2016, Sarasota Music Club has been working in a partnership with Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota to form a new scholarship program, Suncoast Music Scholarships. The program awards scholarships to high school students who reside in Sarasota or Manatee county, to help support their music education.
Sarasota Music Club is happy to accept new members to help support monthly performances and sustain this historic organization.
