The final performance for the 2014-2015 Sarasota Music Club professional musician performances, held on March 20, featured two fantastic violinists.
Having heard the Singing Tree duo before, I was already expecting a very skilled and artistic performance; I was not disappointed. Ray Belanger on hammered dulcimer and Lloyd Goldstein on double bass are each masters of the technical aspects of their instruments. Fortunately, along with the great musical heart they possess individually, they share a sensitivity to each other's efforts. Like two people in a good marriage, they can finish each others' sentences.
A full house was the sight that greeted Traba and Losey, the estimable Flute and Harp Duo from the Sarasota Orchestra. The SMC is doing a great job of inviting members and guests to the monthly meeting/concerts, and Program Chairman Barbara Roth-Donaldson continues to do a great job of lining up talent.
The Sarasota Music Club always has interesting programs, along with really nice coffee and sugary things to ruin my diet. Last Friday it was cinnamon rolls, made by hand in the Sunnyside Village kitchen - mmm, good! I actually never learned to like coffee, though I do like the smell. (When I was a kid, my favorite aisle in our old A&P was where the coffee grinders were...what, you, too?)
The wife-and-husband team of Karen and Christopher Romig returned to the Sarasota Music Club to open the 2014-2015 season on October 17.
