Sarasota Earlye Musicke Consort Concert
Sarasota Earlye Musicke Consort
Recorder Ensemble's concert on March 17 was Sarasota Music Club’s 2016-2017 final season performance at Sunnyside’s Eicher Auditorium.
Directed by Charlotte Trautwein, the musicians were dressed in attire to match the periods of their music selections. Trautwein shared information about their dress, the performance selections and the instruments played by the 14 performers.
The instruments were both Baroque and Renaissance recorders, ranging in size from tiny to the recorder size we are most familiar with to instruments that were taller than the seated musicians. Some of the tallest were traditional construction and others were a modern design with similar tones.
The audience was treated to 15th - 21st century music played on modern instruments modeled after the antique recorders and viol de gambas of the Renaissance and Baroque eras. Gary Betts conducted the ensemble in performing his original composition “Woodland Whimsy.”
